Frugal things in June

I put 1/2 gallon jugs filled with rocks in the tanks of our toilets
Called several hospitals to get the best price on a procedure, saved over $1,000.00
(Learned that my insurance has different contracts with different places)
Leftovers for dinner
Consigned son's clothes and shoes
Bought him clothes at a few thrift and consignment shops
Bought son new (to him) bike on craigslist
Listed his old bike on craigslist ,(so should break even on the bikes)
Cut up ragged towel to use a rags in kitchen instead of using paper towels
Washed baggies to reuse
Shopped clearance racks at grocery stores
Used library for books
Went to bookswap and got 4 books
Got a few birthday freebies (Some I still need to redeem, eg: Rita's)

Oops, I did it again

Still more left over pie crust dough from when I made the PopTarts
So, I made the banana cream pie again.
My point this time is, really anyone can do this.
It doesn't take that much time and you really do save money.

Not pretty, but tastes great

I whipped pudding and whip cream so high, I had extra...bonus dessert

Free for me

Again...sometimes it is not so bad to get junk mail
Kohl's sent a 10.00 off coupon on a purchase of 10.00 or more (I don't have a Kohls card, and don't really shop there)
I didn't quite reach the 10.00 mark, but it works anyway.
New undies and a frosty beverage...free

What a waste

At the beginning of the school year, I had to supply 24 pencils.
In the past it has been as high as 36
Most of the time they go into a communal bin.
The last day of school, my son brought home lots of used and some unused pencils, all to be thrown out.
WHAT?
What a waste!
Not only can we use these next year, imagine the schools that need supplies.
So I am not buying pencils next year, only erasers.
This is what we decided to throw out, anything chewed, too short or cheap quality.

Our supplies for next year

The yellow ones on the left are all Ticonderoga/Dixons....All organized ready for Sept.

More Clearance part 2

And here is what else I got that day...these were on the Clearance rack
Hair dye for about a buck a piece (Looks like I will be rocking some red hair this year) clearance price plus a coupon
Bread .74, cheaper and fresher than the outlet bread.
And chicken close to exp date...we had it that very night.

More Clearance part 1

Look at what I found in the regular refrigerated area.
Nothing wrong with them, nothing expired.
Package changing, or close to sell by date.
The eggs don't expire until July (I bought them about 10 days ago)
A great find, especially since the Aldis, which used to have the cheapest eggs at .89, is now 1.89 a doz
(Just a side note, their butter has gone up as well, from 1.69 lb to 2.12)
